Joseph C. Chrisman with Lowthorp Richards, was born and raised in Ventura and attended Ventura High School.
Joe practices in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust matters, collections, land use, farming, water, real property, environmental matters, and general business law.
He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Before transferring to UCSB, he attended the University of California at Los Angeles where he played basketball, was coached by John Wooden, and was on a UCLA team that went undefeated and won the NCAA Tournament Championship.
Joe received his Juris Doctor from the University of California, Davis. Upon graduation he worked for the Ventura County District Attorney’s office for several years before coming to the Hathaway Law Firm in 1977.
Joe has considerable experience with farm and ranch legal matters, having grown up on a farm in Ventura. He continues to be actively involved in the family’s farming operations in Colusa and Glenn Counties. Joe acts as general counsel for a number of families and entities in Ventura and Santa Barbara County whose assets are varied and have diversified with the passage of time. In addition, he has extensive experience advising families regarding family wealth and estate planning, asset protection, trust administration, real estate and general business matters.
His representation of business entities include those in the wholesale distribution industries – – electrical, plumbing and mechanical – – with their collection work in most all of the southern California counties.
Joe and his family are involved in a number of civic and charitable organizations, and also serves as counsel for a number of non-profit organization.
Joe lives in Ventura with his wife, Valerie, who is the Associate Superintendent of Educational Services for the Ventura County Office of Education. Joe and Valerie have two grown children and two grandchildren.
